Mexico

Zurich – Mexico City
Wednesday 5/3/03

Frenzied packing allowed us to black-tram it to the hauptbahnhof, jump on the train and make it to the airport with enough time for not much at all before they loaded us onto a half empty jet to Schipol, Amsterdam. At Schipol, we discovered there was time for a little duty-free shopping and we saw a great DVD shop where a couple of rare finds were snapped up. We also indulged in some sushi and sake. The flight from Amsterdam to Mexico City was looooong.

Once we got through customs a taxi wasn’t difficult to find and we were taken to our hotel (Hotel Prim). The driver’s assistant kindly let us know that we may have found a hotel that was in a dangerous area AND wildly overpriced. Right. Got a room, cleaned up, ate something light down in the restaurant and then returned to the room to sleep like the dead.

Mexico City
Thursday 6/3/03

Woke up too early and had to wait until 7am to go down for breakfast. After breakfast we went for a very long and meandering wander which had us criss-crossing the Zona Rosa district. Didn’t stop until we reached the Bosque de Chapultepec, a very large park. Then we decided to check out the Museo Nacional de Antropologia. Met Gordon and Shaila there! Great to see them and we talked for a while before they left and we explored the museum. Fantastic and well presented place. Walked back to the hotel and arrived feeling dusty and footsore. Snoozed in the room for a couple of hours before getting hungry. Went downstairs for a snack and discovered Annette and Stefan checking in. Had an early supper and drinks with them before we all went walking into the Zona Rosa to find a place to talk and have another drink. Returned to the hotel for an early night. Very very tired. The day had been warm and bright, so we scored a little burn. Ouch.
