Self-rescue practise at the "Elbow"

Mike Joyce, Tohru Kimura, James Rush, Lu Andrade and Wolfgang Rubin joined me at Sleeping Giant on Sunday 21 for revision and lessons in self-rescue techniques. We covered top-rope anchors, lead anchors, handling a cordalette, the tape knot (aka water knot), some friction knots, the mule knot, clove and munter hitches, escaping the belay and climbing the rope. Tohru learned to belay a climber and Wolfgang even did his first rappel. Bloody marvelous day.

Most memorable moment: Lu dropped her belay device and (because I wouldn't return it) had to lower Tohru using a munter hitch. It works!

Note: The area we used (The Theater) was most recently developed for bouldering by Sean Whalley back in the late 1990's. For more information, concerning the available routes and the Theater's climbing history, go to this PAGE put up by Sean.

Toru also took some photographs.
